What's it about? Landscaping and planting in the area around the New Learning Centre at Ormiclate. Planting a variety of plants and shrubs that will thrive in the locality and encourage insect and bird life. Volunteers will clear the ground and carry out the planting with the help of the older nursery children.

SNHGress River Habitat Improvement
Where? Stornoway
When? 25/5/08 to 1/7/08
What's it about? Habitat improvement on Gress River to provide better natural spawning grounds for trout and Salmon. Volunteers will remove debris and obstructions from streams. Silted/compacted gravel beds loosened up and cleared for spawning fish. Bank erosion will be halted by use of wire mesh gabions to shore up banks and repair broken weirs.

SNHBiodiversity Planting Project
Where? Isle Of Benbecula

What's it about? Sgoil Lionacleit is a community school based at the centre of the island which offers public access to the sports facilities, museum, public library and canteen; as such it is central island facility for the whole community. We aim to plant native shrubs and trees to encourage the species that live in the Western Isles providing food and habitat. Volunteers will plant and nurture these shrubs/trees throughout the school site. There will then be opportunities for students and community members to enjoy the rich flora and fauna of the Western Isles alongside our local biodiversity officer.

What's it about? To create a community garden. - Volunteers will prepare the area for planting which will include weeding and picking out stones. - They will be planting trees, shrubs and plants in the garden and in pots. - They will help with laying the materials for paths and laying the recycled glass on it. - They will erect bird feeders and bird houses.

We will create a riverside habitat for birds, insects and wildlife by planting native species of shrubs, trees and flowers which will enhance the appearance of the area and develop it so that it will be a natural habitat which will give informal enjoyment and educational value to locals and visitors. Volunteers will help to remove rough ground, replace it with good soil, dig and plant and rake over the soil and add composted bark from the local woodland.
