Grow your own Sunshine
Where? Killingworth
When? 2 May 2008
What's it about? Sunflower seed planting for children who are 11 years old and under. The tallest two Sunflowers by July 18th win a prize. The volunteers will get all the necessary resources. Make and display the posters advertising the competition. On the day they will help the children plant the seeds, explaining how to look after them, and when to plant them out in the garden. They will keep a record of all the entrants names. Entrants will telephone WMRA with the height of their sunflower and volunteers will measure the tallest ones to verify they have won.

A Towering Inferno of Flowers
Where? Newcastle Upon Tyne

What's it about? The children will plant up two Planters that will stay on display outside the community centre - one is a three-tier and the other a two-tier. First of all the children will fill up the planters with compost and then plant them up with a selection of plants, and water them regularly afterwards. The volunteers will make and display posters advertising the event, collect all the resources, supervise the children while they are planting and provide refreshments afterwards.

River Bank Raid - Lower Ouseburn
Where? Newcastle upon Tyne
When? 6 June 2008
What's it about? The project will take place on 6th June 2008 as part of World Environment Day events in the City. It forms part of the Clean Tyne Project and involves removing physical contamination from the Ouse Burn, a tributary of the River Tyne. Volunteers from the City Council and Environment Agency will clean up this stretch of tidal river bed, removing old car tyres, shopping baskets, bikes, wood, etc.
