What's it about? The volunteers will clear the land which will eventually be made into a sensory garden for people with Learning Disabilities and Complex Needs. The land needs to be dug over, weeded, cleared of rubbish and also carry the paving stones from one part of the garden to another. The land will then be ready for the sensory garden to be started.

Amphibian Alert

What's it about? Having researched amphibians in general and newts in particular the previous week, we will be building -from scratch!- an amphibian hibernacula for newts to use. This will involve digging,sawing and lifting heavy logs so old clothes will be needed and strong footwear.

Spuds 4 Kids
Where? Newcastle upon Tyne

What's it about? The children will be planting potato sets in reusable bags, to prove to them when they grow that potatoes grow in soil; not in plastic bags!; The volunteer adults will help the children fill the reusable bags with compost, and they will ensure the children remember to water them regularly.; When the potatoes are ready to eat, the adults will help the children to prepare and cook the potatoes in several different ways.

Bug Explorers Day
Where? Sunderland

What's it about? They will explore a local cycle path with bags of bug finding equipment and record what they find walking one way and then when returning they will do a litter pick to tidy area. Litter will be recycled where possible and discussions on this will promote awareness of recycling. Later further exploration will be done to monitor how the litter pick may have improved the area.

Wildlife Explorers Day

What's it about? They will explore a local dene and help thin out the trees and bushes and weed out the new plant growth encouraging new habitats for wildlife. Throughout the day we will monitor the wildlife already there and plan what habitats could be improved to encourage mor wildlife.
