When? 2 May 2009
What's it about? Ann Street Sunshine is seeking to involve local people in making the entrance to the Mark Henderson Community Centre a bright and welcoming place on Ann Street. The local volunteers will be encouraged to bring their own lunch + 1 so after the work everybody can sit down and eat together, sharing with one another and encouraging a sense of achievement. After consultation with the people who live and work on near the centre this project is much anticipated and welcomed by all the residents and people who work on the street and use the centre. It is intended to purchase weed killer, and to hire a power washer to clean the paving slabs. The equipment needed for the project such as trimmer, gloves, lawn mower and other gardening tools will be provided by Signpost International. Entrancenhance
Where? Kinnesswood
When? 21 June 2009
What's it about? The project is to complement the recent implementation of traffic calming measures at the east and west entrances to the rural village of Kinnesswood. We want to create a visual impact as cars slow down to approach our village. Both entrances have limitations due to verges near the roadside. Our solution is to create a striking feature where the verge ends at each entrance by providing quality large attractive containers and planting up with sustainable plants. One of the areas is on a unkept small neglected corner of land which we believe could be transformed by this initiative. There is a high level of support from the community for this, particulary from residents who look out on to this area. Local volunteers, guided by Kinnesswood in Bloom have already offered to assist in the clearing, preparation, planting and ongoing maintenance of the project. Village esteem is already high currently as we have been nominated for Britain in Bloom this year and we seek to maintain this. Support will be given credit in our Britain in Bloom folder which in turn gets good press coverage.
