neighbourhood recycling and composting area
Where? Stoke on Trent
When? 2 June 2009
What's it about? We have a small area of waste ground that we wish to convert into a communal recycling and composting area, at the moment we don't have a facility for recycling plastics, so we wish to have an area for plastics which once full, one of us will take to a larger place to recycle. Also we want to make a composting area that we can all contribute to and share the compost between us. It will do our bit for the environment while making use of an area, which isn’t used. We have the owners’ permission to use this ground. Our volunteers will include children and elderly residents. We feel that it will bring the community together whilst at the same time help the environment, ensuring that our future generations will benefit. We plan to make the composting area from pallets that we can get for free, but will need to purchase some galvanised chicken wire to make a container for the plastics, we would also like to purchase some grass seeds and some wildflower seeds if the budget allows us.
