Blooming Lovely in Cotes Heath & Standon

What's it about? Planting and maintaining floral displays throughout the 2 villages in various locations, some planters will be conventional, hanging on railings and outside buildings, others will be more unusual and striking. Reusing old containers and materials will be a major factor and will help to keep costs down.

The Organic Communtiy Garden

Cross For Beijing Olympics 2008

What's it about? Members of our youth group will plant flowers at All Saints First School, Standon. A section of garden is laid out in the shape of a cross. We plant to use the five colours of the Olympic rings; blue, yellow, black, green and red. One circle of each coloured flower in each box to form the cross. When finished a short opening ceremony to celebrate the Olympic torch arriving in Beijing with the headteacher and local councillor.

Green Peas

What's it about? Last year we enclosed an area of school grounds to be a nature area. We now want to develop part of this area into a nursery for trees and plants and also start a vegetable garden for the children and parents to experience the excitement of growing and harvesting their own crops. Three staff are prepared to run an after school club for our pupils which the children have decided to call Green Peas. We are starting with 15 pupils and parents can come along and help.

What's it about? just like the words in the song we would like to encourage frogs and other water creatures to come and eat bugs and sit on logs by our wet area. We need the volunteers to clear away the algae on the top of the water. We need to buy bulrushes and marginal plants. These will be a visula barrier to help with water safety. Protect Our Fritillaries

What's it about? Tamworth's Broad Meadow has one of a few sites in the whole country where native shakes head fritillaries still grow. The volunteers will make and put up wire netting cages around the plants to prevent birds/rabbits nibbling off the buds. Canes will be used to identify cage sites.
