What's it about? This activity follows on from a clean-up day when we removed seventeen sacks of weeds and rubbish from the site and a follow-up day when shrubs were pruned/cut back. Now let the planting begin. There are three flower beds plus a shrubbery/border which we now plan to plant up - initially with Spring flowers (pansies,primula) then later with bedding plants and perennials.

The Big Balsam Bash

What's it about? Within the country park at Worsbrough, Himalayan Balsam is becoming a major problem, it's invasive nature means it has taken over large areas of land which fall within our Local Nature Reserve. Volunteers will help to solve this problem weeding it out.

Manor Mithering

What's it about? Sustrans rangers look after around 15 miles of cycle route in Sheffield, part of the 12,000 miles of National Cycle Network. One of our most troublesome areas runs alongside the Manor estate in Sheffield. We would like to use this money to bottom out some of the most dificult areas to keep well maintained, involving local people and other volunteers including Sheffield Conservation Volunteers. The grant would enable us to pay volunteer expenses and provide adequate tools. We aim to provide a pleasant environment for healthy activities in this deprived area of the city.

Stairfoot Canal Clean-Up Project

What's it about? C&W Fishing Club is a voluntary run club that was set up two years ago. It's aim was to put distraction activities in place to reduce anti-social behaviour in the Kendry area of Barnsley, where I was the former Police Community Support Officer. Alomg with three elected members for the ward, we have been looking into the possibility of cleaning up a run down stetch of canal in Stairfoot, Barnsley, and to restock the canal with fish and use it as the community fishing area. Part one of the project has taken place and part two will take place in June. Young people will be attending from all four schools in the area and they will work alongside club members, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and Community Wardens.
