Restoring the Peace
Where? Cardiff
When? 29 May 2009
What's it about? The Garden of Peace; The Welsh National Garden of Peace in Cardiff was founded in 1988 to celebrate the values of peace and international understanding. In the care of the United Nations Association of Wales, local and international volunteers still maintain the garden today. The garden has put on a spectacular display throughout spring with the cherry trees in full bloom. However, there is little colour available in the summer months and volunteers have expressed their wish to brighten up the garden. In addition, the commemorative plaques that welcome people into the garden are in desperate need of a loving restoration as both have been badly damaged by weather. Some of the garden benches and bins will also need varnishing to carry them through another winter, and ensure the garden remains a welcoming space for visitors. Volunteers will be: Weeding flowerbeds, tidy shrubbery, restoring both commemorative plaques, cleaning /varnishing garden benches and bins and participating in a litter pick of the area.
