Youth Cafe Diggers
Where? Newport
When? 26 May 2009
What's it about? The Newport Youth Cafe consists of around 25 youngsters (ages 11 to 16), who join together on several evenings each week to play snooker, learn computer techniques and generally to "keep off the streets". Outside their building is a large wooden planter and also a circular beer barrel both of which currently contain plants which have been put in place previously by other volunteers.
The HoEiB are asking these children to join in as volunteers in their own right and take over the looking after of these planters each time they need weeding or planting or replanting.
The diggers will require some tools and also initially plants for this year. Mostly these plants will be perennials, but we do require some really bright colours ; eg geraniums.
Our colours this year for Newport are red, orange, yellow, purple and bright green, and we would hope the youngsters would try to follow these colours.
