Himalayan Balsam - Second Phase
Where? Brecon
When? 12th July 2009
What's it about? The aim of this project is to reduce the spread of the invasive species - Himalayan Balsam from the riverbanks within the central town area. The volunteers will work together to pull each plant from the soil, including the roots. They will then pile the plants into heaps above the high water level, where they will naturally compost.

Meadow Fun and Feast
Where? Brecon

What's it about? A project to introduce new volunteers to the ways they can help wildlife and to thank existing volunteers for all their hard work helping their local wildlife. The Project will be based at our Cae Egwlys nature reserve, a delightful wildflower meadow with far reaching views to the Brecon Beacons. Volunteers will have a taste of volunteering in the morning by helping to clear bracken, then there will be a BBQ feast provided, followed by a gentle stroll around the reserve in the afternoon exploring the range of wildflowers, butterflies and other wildlife that lives in the reserve.

"We are Batty" about Wildlife

What's it about? We are keen to enhance our wildlife area around the village hall/school. The butterfly garden as well as the woodland area is now well established, and we are keen to attract as much wildlife as possible. The education officer from the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust will spend a day with us and help us understand, assemble and put up a butterfly habitat, bat box and bug box. We feel that this is an exciting project to make our area as diverse as possible.

Footsteps to Wildlife

What's it about? A project to improve access to our Glasbury Cutting nature reserve, important for dormice, spring flowers and much more wildlife. Volunteers will help to replace two old stiles with new kissing gates making access easier for site visitors, along with the installation of a bench halfway along the reserve to give visitors somewhere to rest and admire the wildlife around them.

Minibeast Motel

What's it about? The Eco committee would like all the children in the school to help create a minibeast motel which will provide a minibeast haven on the school grounds. With the help of parents, friends and volunteers building materials will need to be found, collected and assemled with the children. Our local wildlife trust will be leading the project and providing help and advice for the whole day. We will use the money to go towards the cost of; Crates, wood, moss, gloves, transport etc.
