Insector Loco

What's it about? The volunteers will design and create an insect trail within the deciduous woods that will be used by future site visitors and organisations as an educational and informational tool. Being led by a mentor the volunteers will decide what kind of insects they want to include in the trail (there is wetland, woodland and a field they can use), they will then design a trail that will include access to the insects they have identified and research information to place in a leaflet. They will make trap doors to put on the ground that can be lifted to reveal the insects, piles of wood and small information boards also an A4 map that will have information about the insects on that will enable people to walk around the site and follow the trail.

Positively Post Painting

What's it about? The volunteers are going to rub down and paint posts at the roadside of Crofts Hill in Flamborough. Approximately 30 posts will be targeted. Please wear old clothes; it doesn’t matter if they get paint on them. We will also be having a litter pick around the posts and the whole area too.

Carnival Clearup

Sancton Village Pond
Where? Sancton
When? 25 July 2009
What's it about? Our pond, which is fairly shallow, is fed by water (from an underground stream which is 'contaminated' with fertilisers leaching from nearby farmers' fields. This means that the various water weeds are well-fed and grow rapidly and thickly. We are desperate to solve the problem both by improving the water flow and overcoming the weed/algae issue.

Cleaner Country Roads

What's it about? We will clear litter from the sides of the B6479 from the Stainforth Parish boundary with Langliffe up to the Parish boundary with Helwith Bridge/ Horton in Ribblesdale. Plastic bottles, crisp packets & all kinds of rubbish get slung out of vehicle windows all along the road. The clean-up will not only make the verges look better but improve the area for wildlife in this lovely part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Gooseker Mini-Meadow

What's it about? A rough piece of ground, overgrown with tough grass, will be raked out & cleared of dog mess & litter. It will be allowed to grow its natural wild grasses & flowers with some help from us. We hope to add small wild flower bulbs of local origin & encourage a medley of varying local grasses. The area will then be mown once or twice a year at specific times to allow growth of natural grasses & flowers.

Composting Bonanza!

What's it about? Using old wooden pallets the volunteers will build composting bins that the local community who take up the use of the site for growing vegetables are able to use and put back into the soil in the form of mulch. An initiative on composting will be run around the bins but the project will be to build the bins and place information alongside them on how and what to compost. The volunteers will construct new wooden compost bins out of old wooden pallets.

No Hurdles in my way!

Creating hurdles and trellis panels for the woodland pathway out of natural materials, this will allow climbing plants the opportunity to grow higher and wheelchair users the opportunity to plant and tender for the climbers in the woodland. Volunteers will learn a new skill that they can take home or use to help others.We have masses of volunteers who enjoy doing tasks in the woodland These trellises will serve many purposes, enhance the volunteer and visitor experience, encourage more wildlife and create a sheltered area for volunteers and wildlife to enjoy.

Super Raised Garden Beds at Stillington School
