Scarning Preschool's Seeds of Change
Where? Dereham
When? 6 June 2008
What's it about? Scarning Preschool moved into a new site over one year, the change brought with it not only upheaval but also an unsightly, muddy garden. The garden as it is brings no inspiration or in depth fun to any of the kids who really want to enjoy their outdoor space. After persistent fundraising we have managed to lay a rubberised soft surface area made from old, recycled trainers – this is for the children to safely enjoy using their outdoor equipment, however this renders the rest of the garden empty…a blank canvas crying out for flowers and life! Seeds of Change is a project to transform Scarning Preschool Garden into a sanctuary of sensory plants and pleasures bursting with colour and fragrance for the children – a key element is to use this a live, ongoing, sustainable project that allows the children themselves to actively dig and grow the plants, to care for and learn from them. We desire to have a quiet & shaded reading area, herb garden, a beach complete with sand and old wooden rowing boat as well as an activity exercise area. All of this will cost money and a £50 award from CSV Active Earth will truly help us realise our full potential and will also mean that the children become empowered by Seeds of Change not just for their garden but also for the planet and their futures...we may even finally get butterflies to visit too!
