The outdoor classroom
Where? Bridgend
When? 13/05/09
What's it about? We have in the past created a butterfly garden, meadow, log pile, rock pile and pond. So far we have cleared an overgrown area from nettles, grass and weeds. We recycled any dead branches and twigs by shredding them and using them to create a path. The area is now suitable for all classes to explore. However, there are still many projects that we would wish to complete to enhnace the area further. One of our goals is to construct an outdoor classroom/log cabin in which up to thirty pupils can learn about the environment, the nature theyre surrounded by, work inside and store essential materials and tools. This project will benefit pupils from all classes. Another one of our goals is to complete building a bird watching hide where pupils can watch the birds and other animals I their natural habitat, without the animals knowing we are there. We also aim to have a vegetable patch where we can grow our own vegetables.

Ton Pentre Growers
Where? Ton Pentre
When? 3 June 2009
What's it about? As a school, we are looking to set up a gardening club for the children to be able to plant flowers and make the school grounds more creative and colourful etc and to also cultivate a small section of the grounds to allow for planting fruit and vegetables. This money would allow us to purchase the basic tools, plants and soil etc in order to give the club a good head start. It will also allow us to promote the club and attract parent volunteers to assist with maintaining the plots. We are also currently in the process of setting the school up for the Eco Schools initiative and this project would obviously add to our existing achievements.

Plant 'n' Pick!
Where? Treherbert
When? 16 June 2009
What's it about? As a school we are always looking for new ideas to allow the children to explore the outside world and experience gardening for themselves. We are currently running sessions for small groups of the children to plant seeds of fruits and vegetables and watch them grow. They then have the opportunity to pick them and take them home for their families to cook. This project will enable us to further develop the garden area and purchase more seeds as well as teach the children how to use specialist gardening tools.
