SNHBiological Recording in Argyll
Where? Argyll
When? 1 June 2009
What's it about? The Argyll & Bute Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) states that the county has the richest biodiversity in Scotland. LBAP recognises that biodiversity is measurable and the collation of biological records will allow the assessment of habitat and species. This information will indicate where management action may be required. The Isle of Seil Natural History Group has 90 members and organises monthly field trips to identify and record species in Argyll. The group has some members with considerable specialist knowledge and one member is the official Argyll recorder for the Botanical Society of Great Britain. Acquisition of a compact digital camera and a GPS device would permit the group to record accurate data on the occurrence and location of species to contribute to the Argyll LBAP collation process on a long term basis.

This would involve myself and volunteers been involved in recording. In addition long term aims include introducing the public to moth trapping through events at the reserve (e.g. moth trapping evenings and planting/explanation of Lepidoptera friendly plants during activities with visiting school groups) and through interpretation of the biodiversity of moths on the reserve at existing events (e.g. guided walks and visitor centre interpretation work) in an effort to raise awareness of Lepidoptera diversity
