Banking On Safety

The Stag Beetle Project
Where? Gosport

What's it about? Volunteers will :-
- Identify possible sites for stag beetles (5 in all)
- Make several large holes in new buckets (including base)
- Dig holes large enough to insert buckets.
- Cut logs to bucket size and insert in buckets.
- Fill with woodchips and saw dust.
- Insert in newly dug holes and cover with woodchips. Then wait!
Stag beetles have been noted on site. Our aim is to provide suitable habitats for them and to encourage more of this endangered species.

Concrete Conservation

What's it about? To organise a community clean up event in the Polygon area to encourage residents, those living in houses of multiple-occupancy and landlords to reduce, re-use and recycle. Particularly focusing on ‘bulky items’ for example unwanted furniture, electrical goods, clothes and duvets that are regularly left as waste on the street. Unwanted materials will be collected and then sorted, re-used and recycled. A community venue has been identified and will provide a drop off point for unwanted materials. Volunteers will deliver publicity before the event and on the day will help to clear the streets of rubbish and then sort what is collected into items that can be re-used/recycled. Volunteers will be students from Solent and Southampton University and residents who want to clean up the area that they live in.
