Banish the Rubbish and Alienate the Invaders

What's it about? We would like to clear up a small nature reserve called Hall Lee Brook. It is situated in West Houghton, near the high school, and at present has a considerable amount of litter in its brook and woodlands. We will use current Wildlife Trust volunteers and have a big publicity campaign to get local people down to help, particularly those from the school. Volunteers will pick up litter from the woodlands and brook, and remove Himalayan balsam.

Ashton Heath - woodland improvement

What's it about? Planting a mixture of wildflower grasses and seed throughout the woodland on Ashton Heath. We have been managing the woodland for four years, repairing damage, clearing rubbish and coppicing the trees. Snowdrops and bluebells have been planted and we now wish to add to the variety of woodland plants.

Magic Circle

What's it about? We would like to transform an area of our school field into a 'magic circle', an area outlined by a hedge with a tree in the centre (for shade) and carpeted with wild flowers. It will provide a quiet place for children to sit, relax and enjoy their surroundings. The wild flowers and native hedge plants will encourage birds, butterflies and mini beasts. The children and parents will be marking out the circle, preparing and planting the tree, hedge and wildflowers.
