Planting Up Pavement Planter In Shenfiled

What's it about? We will plant summer bedding plants in a pavement planter on Hutton Road, Shenfield (A 129) on a wide public footpath adjacent to Rockleigh Court. This will add colour and brighten up a very dull and featureless footing which is well trafficked.

Bird Box Bonanza

What's it about? The school has some nesting boxes for birds. We need poles on which to site them as attempts to mount on fences were vandalised by outsiders. Volunteers will dig holes, put in poles, secure with quick set cement and cover up the holes. We plan to use digital cameras to see if we are successful in attracting birds to our extensive site. The location is our school fields.

Scarecrow In The Churchyard
Where? Little Totham

What's it about? Little Totham is a small village (350 residents) with no village hall, school, shop or bus service. The churchyard is a safe place for children to learn more about the local environment. The volunteers on this project are local children aged between 5 - 15 plus adults. These volunteers will collect both natural and recyclable materials to make scarecrows. These will be displayed during the flower festival and open gardens the following week as a scarecrow trail around the village. Visitors will be invited to comment on them.

What's it about? Preparation of reptile refugia (corrugated iron, bitumen sheets and heavy duty roofing felt) for subsequent use with the Wrabness Reptile Survey. This practical work, using power tools to cut the materials, needs to be completed in adavance to enable the follow-on survey. (The follow-on survey work is required to inform future management decisions on this newly acquired reserve to ensure the specialist needs of these protected species are accommodated in the new site management plan).
