Homes for our feathered friends
Where? Whithorn, Newton STewart
When? 27 June 2008
What's it about? We are a charity childcare organisation that is registered to provide care for children from 6 weeks to twelve years. Over the last five years we have developed an area of wasteland situated next to our premises, we mow have various area within the garden to provide development and education for the children( sensory Garden, play areas, vegetable plot etc). This has made a massive difference to the children as they have been involved since the beginning and respect the area because they have put so much hard work into it. One side of the garden is surrounded by an old wire 6 foot fence and we would like to plant shrubs and various trees to landscape this area. This will result in a more sheltered garden and it will also encourage small birds etc to nest in the hedge as at the moment there is no area like this so it is difficult to encourage birds to our bird table and nesting boxes as they have little foliage cover.
