Butterfly Creation
Where? Mold
When? 14 July 2008
What's it about? We would like to create a woodland area within our school grounds to attract wildlife including butterflies. In order to do this we need tools and specific plants to attract the wildlife into our school grounds. The children and volunteers from parents and local people will work together to clear an area within our school grounds and plant flowers, plants and grasses that will attract wildlife into our school environment. The effect this project will have on our school and community will benefit everyone. The children will have a more engaging environment to work and play in. They will effectively have an outside classroom to learn about life and living things as well as how to look after our environment and care for the flowers and plants that they will plant. This project will also bring together our community and therefore strengthen the bonds between the local people.

Wild Willow at Plas Power!

When? 24 July 2008
What's it about? The project aims to plant willow in a tunnel and circular shape around a seating area at the Plas Power site where Groundwork Wrexham & Flintshire and the Plas Power Environmental Education Centre are based. The willow planting will take place on a part of the site which is visited and used by at least 200 schools a year and is in need of improved shade and development. To make the site more visually appealing to the pupils who visit, we also wish to create small decorative willow weavings. The volunteers will assist with site clearance, willow planting and willow weaving. The willow planted will increase shade and when pruned yearly, will provide a sustainable resource for activities that pupils take part in.
