Fence Post/Rail To Complete Footpath Bridleway For Public Use
Where? Chester
When? Saturday 27th June 2009
What's it about? Volunteers are going to be carrying out remedial work on the Ancient hedgerow that borders one side of the pathway/Bridleway, they are going to install new 4 bar post and rail fencing to the other side. We are also going to be planting wildflowers and trees native to the area. The community woodland volunteers will do the work. This Pathway borders one end of the community woodland. We want to create a safe experience for families, children and those who need disabled access. Over the past 10 years the community have donated over 6,000 voluntary hours to create the woodland.

Scouts In Action

What's it about? The volunteers will clear a woodland area so that people can see clearly where the public footpath is. They will also buy materials to make bird boxes, bat boxes etc and place in the trees to attract widlife. We will also be assisting to clear the tumbleweed that is taking over the local pond/stream.

Star Gardeners

What's it about? We are setting up a gardening club using the children at school. It will take place on Monday afternoon after school with 30 pupils chosen - 2 from each class on a 3 week rota. We will be clearing raised beds and borders, weeding, growing seedlings, planting, tidying areas around the school, growing vegetables and flowers. If possible we will use the grown vegetables in the school canteen.

Green Fingers

What's it about? The children and adults will prepare the ground by digging over and mixing compost with organic fertiliser. Then they will prepare seed beds before planting seeds and bulbs in 4 beds and several planters eg potatoes, peas, tomatoes, runner beans, radish, salad leaf, courgette, flowers, rhubarb and strawberrys. They will label and water plants. Some bird scaring equipment will also be assembled.
