Wales Action Earth Launch 2008
Worshipful the Mayor Mrs Mari Jones of Bridgend and her Escort Mrs Violet Cody were the
guests of honour at the CSV Action Earth Wales Launch which was held at HMP & YOI Parc,
Bridgend.
Despite constant rain for several days, by 10 a.m. the clouds had started to clear and a tiny ray of sunshine peeked out. Over 30 volunteers turned up ready to help prepare the flower baskets for Coity Primary School and transplant seedlings ready to be donated to local charities. These included Marlborough Primary School in Cardiff.
The Launch was opened in Welsh by volunteer, Rhiannon Simms, followed by Steve Williams, Integration Manager and NVQ Co-ordinator at Parc Prison.
Amongst the guests were Mr Tegwyn Jones (Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy), Judith
Mcmullin (RSVP Project Development Officer), Jo Browning (RSVP National Admistrator),
Suzanne Lockwood (CSV Education) and volunteers from Parc Prison. All the guests were
encouraged to walk around the nursery garden, then help the prisoners in various horticultural
activities, emphasising the facility's commitment to the successful skills and knowledge that
allows the continued development of the Gardens at Parc Prison.
A special acknowledgement should go to Tim York (Regional Director of Morrisons) and the buffet that was supplied by his company.
