Leicestershire

Grub Garden

The Gables, Forest Road, Loughborough, 28 April 2010

Our students in halls (international and UK students) have asked for a fresh herb garden where they live, to help keep living costs down. We would like to use plants, rather than seeds, so that it can look instantly more like a garden and so that this year's students, who have requested it, will be able to benefit. The garden would include plants like chives, marjoram, thyme, rosemary and sage, all of which help bumblebees and other insects. Our students who have special needs would plant the herbs, but hopefully we could encourage some halls students to join in too, as this improves integration.

Merseyside

Bio Bucket Brigade (BBB)

St Michael’s Church of England High School, Crosby, Merseyside, 30 April 2010

As part of our Eco work, the BBB intend to recycle old newspapers into briquettes which can then be re-used as solid fuel blocks. Our Eco Champs have ideas to trial these briquettes by holding an Eco bbq. Great interest has already been shown by a number of people in buying these blocks which will help sustain the project. We need to invest in some machines and obviously some BUCKETS.
